Duty to leave: If UDI rejected your application for a temporary residence permit, you have received a decision letter with a duty to leave and a deadline for leaving. You must leave Norway and/or the Schengen area within this deadline.
Deadline for leaving: The deadline you are given to leave Norway and/or the Schengen area. The deadline is stated in the decision letter.
Register departure: You are responsible for ensuring that your departure from Norway is registered. You, therefore, have to travel via an operated border control.
Expulsion: To receive a decision from UDI stating that you are expelled from Norway for one or more years. You will then be subject to a prohibition against entry and cannot return to Norway until the prohibition against entry has expired.
Rejection of entry: To be refused entry into Norway or to be notified by the Norwegian authorities that you have to leave Norway. A rejection is only a temporary prohibition. You can return to Norway later.
Deportation: To be escorted out of Norway by the police. If the police escort you out of Norway, you must pay the costs of your deportation before you may return to Norway. You cannot be granted a residence permit if you owe money for your deportation.
Schengen Information System (SIS): SIS is a system where the authorities in the Schengen countries can exchange information about people with a duty to leave and a deadline for leaving the Schengen area. This is to check that the duty to leave is complied with and to ensure joint external border control.
