If you hold a residence permit in Norway and it is not possible for you to obtain a passport from your home country, you can apply for a refugee travel document or an immigrant's passport. You can use this document instead of a passport.

Immigrant’s passport

You hold a residence permit in Norway.
It is not possible for you to obtain a passport from your home country.
You want a travel document that is valid for several years.

Refugee travel document

You came to Norway as an asylum seeker or resettlement refugee and have been granted protection (asylum) in Norway and refugee status.
You are the spouse, cohabitant or child of a person who has been granted refugee status in Norway.

Immigrant’s passport for a single journey

You hold a residence permit in Norway.
It is not possible for you to obtain a passport from your home country in time for your journey.
You need a travel document for this one trip, for example a school trip or a trip to visit a seriously ill close family member.

Transfer refugee status to Norway

You hold a residence permit in Norway
You have lived in Norway for more than two years, or have been given a residence permit in Norway beyond the validity of your travel document.
You have been granted refugee status in an European country bound by the European Agreement on Transfer of Responsibility for Refugees
You hold a travel document for refugees from this country
