Procedures for processing family immigration applications from persons expelled for two or five years who have children in Norway

From 1 March 2023, UDI will introduce new procedures for processing applications for family immigration from persons who have been expelled from Norway with a time-limited prohibition against entry, and who have children in Norway.

You can apply for family immigration within six months of the prohibition against entry expiry date

If you have been expelled from Norway for two or five years, and you have children in Norway with Norwegian citizenship, a residence permit or right of residence according to the EU/EEA regulations, you can apply for family immigration within six months of the date of expiry of the prohibition against entry. This scheme is intended to prevent a significantly longer interruption of family life than the two or five years of your expulsion.

You must fulfil all other requirements for a new residence permit, except for the requirement of not being subject to a prohibition against entry, at the time of UDI's decision on your case.

Although a new residence permit can be granted before the prohibition of entry expires, you cannot travel to Norway and Schengen until after the prohibition of entry has expired.

UDI will give the application priority

UDI will give your application for family immigration priority so that it is processed before the prohibition of entry expires, or shortly after.
