Requirements for both

• Your marriage/partnership must have been validly entered into.
• You must have plans to live together in Norway. 
• You must not have been forced to marry (forced marriage). 
• Your marriage must not be a proforma marriage/ marriage of convenience.

Requirements for the applicant

• You must document your identity. A valid passport is usually valid proof of identity. 
• You must not be subject to a prohibition against entry to Norway or Schengen.

Requirements for the reference person

• You must be registered as an EU/EEA national. 
• You must have moved to Norway to be an employee, self-employed person, student or live here with sufficient funds.
• You must still meet the registration requirements.

• If you are a student, self-employed, or live in Norway with sufficient funds, you must show that you are able to support the both of you.

How to apply

Requirements for both

• Both of you must be over the age of 18.
• You are going to live together in Norway.
• You must meet one of the following two requirements:
  • You must have lived together for at least two years and neither of you can be married to someone else.
  • You have, or are expecting, a child together. You are both unmarried or divorced.

• You must not be subject to a prohibition against entry to Norway or Schengen.

Requirements for the reference person

• You must be registered as an EU/EEA national. 
• You must have moved to Norway to be an employee, self-employed person, student or live here with sufficient funds.
• You must still meet the registration requirements.

• If you are a student, self-employed, or live in Norway with sufficient funds, you must show that you are able to support the both of you.

How to apply

Requirements for both

• You are going to get married in Norway within six months after entry.
• Neither of you can be married to other people.
• You must have plans to live together in Norway.
• You must not have been forced to get engaged (forced marriage).
• Your engagement must be genuine, i.e. not an engagement of convenience /proforma engagement.

Requirements for the applicant

• You must not be subject to a prohibition against entry to Norway or Schengen.
• You must document your identity. A valid passport is usually valid proof of identity. 

• You must have a private health insurance
  
  You must document that you have insurance covering health services for the period of stay in Norway until you get married. This means that the insurance must cover all expenses caused by illness, and it must also cover treatment due to other health conditions you may have. When you stay in Norway as a fiancé, you must be financially independent, and you are thus not entitled to free health care in Norway.

  Where do you buy insurance?
  The UDI cannot recommend where you buy your insurance. Several insurance companies offer international health insurance. Suppose you choose an insurance that does not cover expenses for follow-up or treatment of a chronic illness you already have or pregnancy and childbirth. In that case, you must cover costs related to this yourself when you are in Norway.

Residence card
After the marriage has taken place, you must apply for a residence card for an EU/EEA national spouse.

• You must be registered as an EU/EEA national.
• You must have moved to Norway to be an employee, self-employed person or be living here with sufficient funds.
• You must still meet the registration requirements.
• If you are self-employed, or live in Norway with sufficient funds, you must show that you are able to support the both of you.

• You must meet with the police or a VFS Application Centre/embassy. If you are under 18, one of your parents must go with you. It is sufficient that only one of your parents goes with you, as long as the other parent signs the application, and you attach both parents' passports.

• You must be registered as an EU/EEA national. 
• You must have moved to Norway to be an employee, self-employed person, student or live here with sufficient funds.
• You must still meet the registration requirements.

• If you are a student, self-employed, or live in Norway with sufficient funds, you must show that you are able to support the both of you.

Requirements for the applicant

• You have a need to be supported financially by the reference person and are currently being supported by him/her. It is necessary for the reference person to support you, in order for your basic needs to be met.

• You must be registered as an EU/EEA national.
• You must have moved to Norway to be an employee, self-employed person or be living here with sufficient funds.
• You must still meet the registration requirements.
• If you are self-employed, or live in Norway with sufficient funds, you must show that you are able to support the both of you.

How to apply

Because one or both parents are citizen of an EU/EEA country, you do not need to apply for a residence permit, but you must register the child with the police or apply for a residency card for the child. This applies also if the child is born in Norway and has a Norwegian personal number. 

• If the child is a citizen of an EU/EEA country, you can use the registration scheme for EU/EEA nationals. Please note that the child must have their own passport before you can attend the appointment with the police. 
• If the child is a citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA, you can apply for a residence card for family members of EU/EEA nationals for the child. Please note that the child must have their own passport before you can attend the appointment with the police. 

There is no deadline for registering your child/applying for a residency card for children under the EU/EEU regulations. UDI reccomends that you register your child as soon as they have a passport.

Requirements for the applicant (child)

• You must document the identity of your child. If they have a valid passport, that is usually valid proof of identity. 

The applicant (your child) must meet at the police station/ foreign mission. It is sufficent that one of the parents follow the child, if the other parent sign the application and the passports of both parents are attached.

Requirements for the reference person (parent)

• You must be registered as an EU/EEA national. 
• You must have moved to Norway to be an employee, self-employed person, student or live here with sufficient funds.
• You must still meet the registration requirements.

• If you are a student, self-employed, or live in Norway with sufficient funds, you must show that you are able to support the both of you.

• You must still meet the registration requirements.
• If you are self-employed, or live in Norway with sufficient funds, you must show that you are able to support the both of you.

• You must have confirmation from the authorities in your home country that you can settle in Norway.
• You must have a medical insurance that covers all risks.

• You must have moved to Norway to be an employee, self-employed person or be living here with sufficient funds.
• You must still meet the registration requirements.
• If you are self-employed, or live in Norway with sufficient funds, you must show that you are able to support the both of you.

• You must be under the age of 18.
• You cannot have parents or other carers in your home country or country of residence.

Requirements for the reference person

• You must be registered as an EU/EEA national.
• You must have moved to Norway to be an employee, self-employed person or be living here with sufficient funds.
• You must still meet the registration requirements.
• If you are self-employed, or live in Norway with sufficient funds, you must show that you are able to support the both of you.

Requirement for approval by the Norwegian child welfare authorities

• You must normally be approved as a carer by the Norwegian child welfare authorities

• You must have serious health problems. 
• You must have a medical insurance that covers all risks.

Requirements for the reference person

• You must be the only person who can provide nursing and care for the family member. 
• You must be registered as an EU/EEA national.
• You must have moved to Norway to be an employee, self-employed person or be living here with sufficient funds.
• You must still meet the registration requirements.
• If you are self-employed, or live in Norway with sufficient funds, you must show that you are able to support the both of you.
