After you have submitted your application for protection, you will be interviewed by UDI. UDI will make a decision on the basis of all the information you have given to the police and UDI, and the documents you have submitted.

What happens during the asylum interview?
- You will be summoned for an asylum interview with UDI.
- You will meet the interpreter and the person who is going to interview you.
- If you are under 18 years of age, you are entitled to bring your representative.
- You are responsible for explaining what has happened to you in your home country and why you left your home country.
- You have an obligation to tell the truth.
Please note: Providing incorrect information is a criminal offence. If you provide incorrect information, it can have a bearing on your application and subsequent applications from you or your family.

How do I submit my documents?
- Documents that are important to your application you can hand in at the asylum interview, or you can send a copy of them to UDI.
- If you are going to hand in ID-documents, you must give them to the police.
- You have a duty to hand in documents that are important to your application.
- If you are seriously ill or injured, you must submit a medical certificate to confirm this.

How will my application be assessed?
- UDI will make a decision based on all the information you have given to the police and UDI and the documents you have submitted.
- If the documents or information you have given us have a bearing on whether you will be granted a permit to stay in Norway or must return to your home country, UDI may check and verify the information or documents.
- If UDI decides that you are not entitled to protection in Norway, UDI will consider whether you can be granted a residence permit on grounds of strong humanitarian considerations or a particular connection to Norway. In order to be granted such a permit, you must normally document your identity by presenting a passport from your home country.
- If you are seriously ill or injured, you must submit a medical certificate to confirm this.
- If you commit a crime and do not need protection, UDI will process and reject your asylum application within a short period of time.
