Do I get money while living at the reception centre?
If you are entitled to live at a reception centre, you will be given money while you live there. You will be paid what is called the basic amount. You do not need to apply for the basic amount.
How much money you receive depends on
- whether you have an application that is being processed
- whether your application has been rejected or you have been granted residence in Norway
- the type of reception centre you live at
If you have received a final rejection of your application for protection (asylum), you will receive less money than before you received the final rejection. You cannot appeal to the reception centre or to UDI because you receive less money after you have received a final rejection.

Can I have expenses for medicine and treatment covered?
If you have expenses for medicine or medical treatment that is essential for your life and health, you may apply to have these expenses covered by UDI. UDI will consider whether or not to cover your expenses.
The type of expenses you can have covered depends on whether you have an application for asylum that is being processed, whether your application has been rejected or whether you have been granted a residence permit. If you have received a final rejection of your application, the expenses must be in connection with an acute need for treatment.

Can I receive financial assistance even if I am not living at a reception centre?
Everyone who applies for asylum in Norway is entitled to live at an asylum reception centre.
You must live at a reception centre to be entitled to financial assistance, free interpreting services, Norwegian language training and other help at the reception centre.
