My application was rejected Permanent right to reside

If your application for the permanent right to reside was not approved, you can appeal.

The deadline for submitting an appeal is normally 3 weeks after you received your decision.

In general, your complaint is to be a handwritten, signed letter in which you explain your reason for appealing. You will find more information here about Appealing a decision by UDI.

You may submit your appeal to the police or to UDI. If UDI does not uphold your complaint, it will be sent on to the Immigration Appeals Board (UNE) where it will be processed once again.

It is enough that you have submitted your appeal before your deadline has passed. If you send in your appeal so late that there may be some uncertainty as to whether you submitted it before the deadline, you should state the date when you received your decision letter and why you did not receive it at the expected time.

If you have been given a deadline for departure, you may ask to stay in Norway while your appeal is being processed.

What now?

  • Unless you appeal the decision, you will as a general rule have to leave Norway within the deadline set out in your decision letter.
  • You can apply with your local police district to have your deadline for leaving Norway postponed.
  • You will have to present yourself to the police with a valid ticket and travel document, so that they confirm that you are leaving the country.
  • You will have to cover the expenses of your return home yourself. This also includes any expenses incurred by the State in connection with your departure from Norway. In order to pay these expenses, you will need to contact the police district that led you out of Norway. If you do not settle this type of debt, you can be refused entry if you later try to travel into Norway. It can also lead to a rejection if you were to later apply for a visa or residence permit.
