Do my children have the right to attend school or kindergarten while I wait for the answer on my application for protection?
Right to attend school
Your children have the right to attend school. This applies whether your application is to be assessed for collective protection or individual protection. The right to attend school applies to your children from the age of 6 years until 16. If you are a parent to a child under 16, you are obligated to send your child to school.
The right to attend school applies as long as it is likely that you will stay in Norway for more than three months. Talk to the employees at the asylum reception centre or the municipality where you live for help with signing your children up for school.
Right to kindergarten
Young children will often be offered a place in a municipal kindergarten. If the municipality cannot provide placement, then the reception centre is to arrange an activity room for children over 2 years of age.

What are my rights regarding healthcare?
You have the right to the same healthcare as everyone in Norway, such as going to the doctor or hospital and receiving certain types of medication. You gain the right to healthcare on the day you come to Norway and ask for protection (asylum).
You can be assigned a General Practitioner (GP). This entails that you can go to the same doctor every time. To be assigned a GP, please call +47 81 05 95 00.
How to get in touch with a doctor
Contact a doctor where you live if you need healthcare.
If you have an urgent need for medical attention, contact the hospital emergency services (A&E / Emergency room).
Call telephone number +47 116 117 to contact the nearest emergency services.
You can ask for help from the staff at the asylum reception centre to book an appointment.
Dental care
If you need dental care, in certain cases you may have the right to have expenses related to acute dental care covered in part or in full.
UDI cannot answer questions related to health and dental care. If you need assistance, please contact Helsenorge.

I have been registered, but I do not have a D number. What should I do?
Both your DUF number and your D number are to be found on your asylum seeker card.
In some cases, no D number is ready at the time when the police carry out a registration and, therefore, it will not be on the person's asylum seeker card. The police will issue a new asylum seeker card by post as soon as the D number is ready. If you do not receive this within one week, you can send an email to pu@politiet.no in which you provide your name, address and DUF number while requesting a new asylum seeker card from the police. The police will then send it to you in the post.
You can read more about what a D number is here.

My asylum seeker card has expired or will expire soon. What should I do?
You must renew your asylum seeker card every 6 months while you are waiting for your application for asylum to be decided.
If you are staying at an asylum reception centre:
Ask the centre to send a request for a new asylum seeker card to the National Police Immigration Service (PU) on your behalf.
If you are staying at a private address:
Contact your local police station. The police will send a request for a new asylum seeker card to PU on your behalf.
