What happens after I have applied for protection (asylum)?

You have come to Norway to find a safe place to live. When you ask for permission to live in Norway, we need to check whether it is safe for you to go back home. Until we decide whether you can stay here, we will refer to you as an asylum seeker.

As an asylum seeker, you will talk to a lot of people and move many times. Some people have to wait a long time for an answer on their application for protection. You can choose to go home at any time.

You will find more information about the process at asylinfo.no (external website). The information has been translated into many languages.
