Period of reflection

Individuals who have been subjected to human trafficking may be granted a "period of reflection". A period-of-reflection residence permit is valid for six months. It is not renewable, and it does not form the basis for a permanent residence permit.

The purpose of a period of reflection is to help those caught up in trafficking activity to break free, to help them to get back on their feet and escape the influence of those behind it. The reflection period is also intended to help them to feel secure enough to make an informed decision about whether or not they wish to cooperate with the authorities to report the traffickers.

The application form for this type of residence permit is called Application for a permit for residence or work.
